Organic Art

Organic form is what you get when a shape follows growth rather than geometry. No straight lines, no repeated modules, no symmetry: instead the swelling and tapering you find in a shell, a river bed or a wind-shaped dune. It is the counterweight to a hard modern interior, and it is the reason a curved piece settles a room full of right angles.

Everything here is shaped rather than assembled. Forms are carved, moulded, folded and built up so the surface flows without a visible join, which is far harder to do convincingly than a geometric pattern and is why so much of this range is one-piece work. Nine in ten pieces stand proud of the wall, because a curve needs depth to read as a curve rather than as a drawing of one.

Mixed media leads the materials, with worked metal, timber, woven leather and cast acrylic behind. White dominates, with blue, gold and green running through, and the palette is deliberately quiet: an organic form does its work through shape, and strong colour competes with it. These are the pieces to reach for when a room has too many straight edges. Most run 80cm or larger and nearly half pass 160cm, and curved work carries large scale better than pattern does because there is no repeat for the eye to count.
